Shakur was born inNew York City, moved to Baltimore before high school, and entered adulthood in theSan Francisco Bay Area. In 1993, to grow his career in film and music, he moved toLos Angeles. In 1991, his debut album,2Pacalypse Now, brought to the West Coast, dominated by gangsta rap, such social insight and revolutionary spirit as previously an East Coast signature.[8][10]Yet apart from showing promise and attracting scandal once implicated in a Texas youth's defense for shooting dead a state trooper, the album made modest impact, dew modest notice.[8]In 1993, he made some critical and much commercial progress with his second album,Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z...With the party single "I Get Around" and the heartfelt single "Keep Ya Head Up," his star arrived.
